Ruth began her franchising journey as many of her client do – after decades in Information Technology for two large insurance companies in management and executive roles, she found herself in the all-too-common situation of having her position eliminated.  She took advantage of the Executive Outplacement Center where she attended a webinar on franchising.  Ruth had not considered owning her own business but at this juncture in her career she wanted to learn more.  She worked with a wonderful franchise consultant that helped her to understand the franchise business model and based on her goal, likes and dislikes presented several options.

 

In 2011, Ruth purchased her Budget Blinds franchise In West Hartford, Connecticut.  Always an avid decorator/designer Budget Blinds seemed like the perfect fit…. designing solutions for windows!  She began by running the business out of her home but soon outgrew that space and opened a showroom/office and hired a team in the heart of the territory.  Ruth will share that her biggest concern in owning the business was sales, she had no experience but oddly enough her lack of experience and honest, problem-solving approach endeared her customers.

I spent the first 29 years of my career in IT for two large insurance companies, Aetna and Travelers. After being laid off in 2011, I started a Budget Blinds franchise out of my home, scaling it quickly and winning “Rookie of the Year” honors.

I was so successful that the franchisor (Budget Blinds) asked me to become its Director of Operations, they hired me as a business coach and then I was promoted, overseeing 400+ franchise owners across North America.

WHAT I DO:
Having acquired experience as an executive in corporate settings, a franchise owner, and working with franchisors, I am now working with ‘’The You Network’’. I leverage my 30 years of experience to assist insurance, IT, and other corporate executives interested in exploring franchise ownership as a career pivot or investment opportunity.

I also collaborate with existing franchise owners seeking to expand their current footprint and explore additional opportunities and niches.


WHAT SETS ME APART:
What sets me apart is that I've walked in their shoes. Having been laid off from corporate after years, I understand the fear, uncertainty, and challenges of starting a new business. Additionally, as a SCORE volunteer, I help entrepreneurs in launching their business ideas and assist small businesses in overcoming obstacles, serving as a free resource to businesses of any size. I believe this experience enhances my franchise coaching
